Nativity Preparatory School Students Deliver Outstanding Performances as Student Attorneys in Discovering Justice Mock Trial

Melick & Porter would like to congratulate the students of Nativity Preparatory School for their superb work in the Discovering Justice Mock Trial Program.

On December 16, 2014, the Nativity students conducted a mock civil trial as the culmination of the Discovering Justice Mock Trial Program at the Moakley Federal Courthouse on the issue of the Fourth Amendment and search and seizure in public schools.  The mock trial marked the end of the students’ participation in a semester long course led by Attorneys Shannon McQueeney Doherty, Jared Giroux, Allison Cherundolo, and Eva Zelnick, in which they learned about the legal system and trial process.  The Honorable Nathaniel M. Gorton, U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Massachusetts presided over the trial.  The students all served as attorneys tasked with presenting the opening statements, direct examinations, cross examinations, and closing arguments for their respective clients.  Judge Gorton, who has presided over mock trials with Discovering Justice since the program’s inception, remarked that the Nativity presentation was the finest he had ever seen.

Melick & Porter looks forward to continuing its partnership with Discovering Justice in the semesters and years to come.
