COVID-19 has changed nearly every aspect of our lives. This extends to our legal practice in myriad ways, not least of which is the new prevalence of virtual mediations. During this live event, you will have the opportunity to take part in a mock virtual mediation. Participants will be able to watch and weigh in as the panel of legal professionals employs new strategies to use this platform to their respective advantages. Participants will be able to see, in real time, how these strategies play out, as well as how the legal professionals navigate common pitfalls of mediation in a virtual setting.
During the mock mediation, you will be able to watch various tactics unfold, electronically weigh in on perceptions and practicalities, and vote on strategic financial moves, as well as the ultimate outcome. You will also have the opportunity to see how your opinions compare to those of your peers.
The mock mediation will involve a construction accident arising from a bus driver hitting and seriously injuring a general contractor on a busy street. The plaintiff’s team will be comprised of Michael Mazurczak of Melick & Porter, LLP and Robert Cox of Glassman, Wyatt, Tuttle & Cox, P.C. The general contractor’s defense team will include Rebecca Newman of Rhodes, Hieronymus, Jones, Tucker & Gable, PLLC; Joe Duncan of Clark, May, Price, Lawley, Duncan & Paul, LLC; and Broderick Harrell of Copeland, Stair, Kingma & Lovell, LLC. Donna Burden of Burden, Hafner & Hansen, LLC and Guy Perrier of Perrier & Lacoste, LLC will make up the defense team for the transportation company. Richard Righi of Righi Fitch Law Group will serve as mediator, with Melissa Bailey of Copeland, Stair, Kingma & Lovell, LLP; Jennifer Crow of Scheer Law PLLC; and Rachel York of Magna Legal Services serving as color commentary.
